Is deep gum cleaning necessary?

with one comment

The hygienist at my dentist’s office refused to give me a "general" cleaning after I received a series of digital x-rays apparently revealing tartar build-up. The x-rays were 0.00. She insisted I needed a deep gum cleansing. It’s not gum disease, she said, but stated that the tartar was obvious between my teeth and eventually would lead to loose teeth and highly recommended the treatment. The cost per quadrant of the deep gum cleaning is approximately 0.00. The good news was that I have no new cavities and that my teeth "are beautiful." Although I am a smoker, she was impressed that I had no stains to remove, but cautioned me that smokers have more of a probability for the development of tartar build up. My Mom, who never smoked in her life, had this procedure done a few years ago. Any opinions – pro or con, are appreciated.
Thank you all for the informative advice. I do not have dental insurance and will definitely attempt to negotiate the cost. As an aside, the hygeniest told me the gum cleaning was not "scaling." There would be no cutting of the gums – merely pulling the gums out away from the teeth to clean between. What can I expect as far as pain? I understand we (me and the hygeniest) will be splurted with blood. What kind of pain medication is usually prescribed – both before and after each procedure?

What do I need to do to convert my natural gas grill to propane?

with one comment

I moved into a house a few years ago that had natural gas ran to the stationary outdoor grill. This was the only appliance using natural gas on the property. I have used the grill with NG the whole time, but rarely grill out, and recently decided to turn the NG off as I as being charged a minumum amount by the gas company whether I used any or not. It seems that I could get by alot cheaper with a propane grill. I need to know how to convert my grill to propane, or if it would be better to just buy a propane grill. Thanks

Why do people buy so much crap?

with one comment

I recently moved to a one bedroom house and I realized how little crap I have. I have a bed, a TV, a DVD player/DVDs. a dresser, a nightstand, a chair, a bookshelf/books, the bare minimal of kitchen stuff, a smoker, a laptop, two lamps, a cellphone, a guitar, a truck, a digital camera, a duffel bag, a pistol, and an ipod. Besides a cardboard box full of random stuff that’s literally it, And what seems to be strange is that I am really happy this way contrary to what my landloard thinks. He said, I guess when you graduate you will get more stuff, he was shocked when I said "No way."

It seems like these days, they are always coming up with gadgets to sell you on TV that are supposed to make life easier, or each month they are coming up with a new electronic device that you just have to have (iPad or droid for example.) Do you really think we need all of this? What are some purchases that you regret? Do you think consumerism one of the reasons that Americans are in such debt? Would you be willing to sell, give away, or trash your non essential material possessions? Do you think materialism is some type of disorder that is very overlooked because of the amount of junk that most of us have?
I also left out towels/ bathroom stuff

i just cleaned out the bbq smoker i have in my backyard any good tips on ribs and chicken?
